A not so trivial case of superficial thrombophlebitis.

Patient E.N..- 49 year old male with severe superficial thrombophlebitis so extensive that Vascular Surgery did excision during acute episode.

Referred regarding need for Coumadin.

A full hypercoaguable work-up was done demonstrating FV Leiden heterozygote and MTHR homozygote; a fasting homocysteine level was normal but the patient has been placed on folate,B6 and B 12. He has also opted for Coumadin though there is no right answer here. It should be noted that several series have reported increased rate of superficial thrombophlebitis in FV Leiden patients.
